Getting Started: Vehicle Types

WHAT TYPE VEHICLE SHOULD I BUY?

This is a tough one to decide because vans and trucks offer a different approach to operations.  Many feel running a van offers more profit potential because of:

* Less Initial Investment
* No Fuel Tax Reporting
* Minimal Requirements
* By-Pass State Scales (Except certain circumstances)
* Park Anywhere Most of the Time
* Less Operating Expenses in General

Keep in mind a truck allows these advantages:
* Ability To Haul Various Size Loads
* Allows For More Comfortable Living Space
* There Is A High Demand For Them
* Many Different Equipment Options Available To Handle Special Types of Freight Which Increases Your Revenue Potential.

The pay rate to a truck is higher which helps to compensate the higher monthly expenses. What you need to do is weigh out the advantages and disadvantages according to what you feel more comfortable with.  It wouldn’t do you any good to choose one over the other thinking you’ll make more money unless you are aware of all the pros & cons of each. For example, if you get a van and you can’t handle the small area for sleeping and you get a motel all the time or you deadhead home, you’ve changed your profit margin. Once you invest your money, you have a long commitment until it’s paid off.  Ask others what it’s like to operate each type of vehicle.
